Stage set for Rose City Futbol Club’s playoff showdown with Ventura County FC
Both clubs bring high-level experience and the will to win. Who will prevail?
Winning teams don’t despair, but instead they battle as a unit and find a way to win.
Last Sunday evening made for a tense Father’s Day contest when Laguna FC took a 1-0 lead over Rose City in the 31st minute at La Paz Sports Park.
Five minutes later, Ryan Firestone tied the match.
After a back-and-forth 1-to-1 nailbiter, George Peterson put Rose City ahead in the 56th minute and German Alfaro, the team’s leading scorer, netted one in extra time immediately before the final whistle for a 3 to 1 victory.
Coach Walker Haynes credited 3Ds for his team’s win: “Dedication, discipline, and determination.”
“Going down 0 – 1 only served to steel the resolve of the squad to battle back and find a way to win,” he says.
Looking ahead
The guys in green will need all the dedication, discipline and determination they can find when they square off against Ventura County FC, affiliated with the LA Galaxy, in UPSL semifinal action at Arcadia City Hall on Saturday evening, 7pm.
Ventura County FC competes in MLS Next Pro, the professional men’s soccer development league affiliated with Major League Soccer.
Rose City’s squad is rich in experience with numerous veteran players who have competed in the United Soccer League and in heated UPSL competition.
“Look for a good match,” says Coach Haynes. “The guys are in good form, playing with confidence, and momentum. Rose City is hungry for a win and we’ve got the talent to get the job done.”
